Senior Software Engineer

📑 Full-time 🏢 AxisCare 🌍 United States 🏡 Remote OK
AxisCare is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join our 100% remote team. You’ll help us modernize our PHP-based web stack and build, release, and maintain our innovative, market-leading home care SaaS. That means:

  • Collaborating with our product leaders to spike out possibilities and get the technical details right for new features

  • Coding backend business logic, further developing our API for client and customer use, integrating with third-party APIs, tackling issues throughout the codebase, and collaborating with front-end devs to wire up the UI

  • Working to improve system performance and resilience, upgrade our underlying tech stack, and automate tedious manual processes to lighten the maintenance load of the whole team.

We hire great people and trust them to do great work. That means software development typically happens within autonomous product teams that are responsible for driving well-shaped projects from concept to completion. No egos here. Just a handful of humble, talented, and conscientious builders who play well with others and work as a team to ship great things.

While this isn’t a managerial role, we’ll be looking to you to lead as a peer, help us navigate tough technical challenges, and seek out opportunities for the professional growth of others on the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 5 years' experience as a professional software engineer on teams, building web apps with the full PHP web stack, including a modern PHP framework and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you’re familiar with utility-first CSS frameworks like Tailwind, even better.

  • Experience building well-structured, readily comprehensible, easily maintainable software that balances practical and elegant. Good software should be working now and easy to change later.

  • Experience working with MySQL, with both PHP-based ORMs and raw SQL

  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs

  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs

  • Fluent use of a distributed version control system like Git to collaborate on software development within a team

  • A good writer, which is especially important given the asynchronous and technically precise nature of our work

  • A desire to work on small, self-managed product teams, though also fully capable of taking substantial features from concept to completion as the sole developer

  • A systems thinker, able to look beyond the element at hand to consider the broader system and the dynamics and interactions at play within it.

You’re able to work remotely and live in the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones in the US. You must be qualified to work in the United States.

What We’d Be Excited to Find

  • Experience building applications designed to run in a cloud-native environment (a.k.a. The Twelve-Factor App)

  • Experience building React-based apps written in TypeScript.

  • Familiarity building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant software.

Working Conditions

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

Compensation and Equipment

  • Salary (TBD based on job experience and skill level)

  • Medical insurance is covered in full for the employee (Medical, Dental and Vision)

  • Company will provide laptop and other needed computer equipment
